PathoFinder, founded in 2004, is a molecular diagnostics scale-up company based in Maastricht. The company develops and commercializes innovative molecular diagnostic tests for comprehensive detection of a wide variety of infectious disease pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2. PathoFinder's proprietary 2SmartFinder® technology enables the detection and differentiation of up to 24 viral, bacterial, fungal and parasitic pathogens in a single assay.

PathoNostics, founded in 2011, is PathoFinder’s sister company and is focusing on the development and manufacturing of real-time PCR assays for fungal diagnostics. Our aim is to rapidly detect the disease-causing fungus and simultaneously identify antifungal resistance, allowing clinicians to initiate a dedicated and timely therapy and save on costs and lives.

Both PathoFinder and Pathonostics are ISO13485 certified, and all products comply with CE-IVD guidelines.

Job description

PathoFinder and PathoNostics will grow significantly in the coming years. Working at PathoFinder/PathoNostics means working together in a young, dynamic, flexible and driven team.

We are looking for a motivated, energetic, and talented Assay Development Manager to join our Research and Development team. As an Assay Development Manager, you will lead a team of scientists and technicians in the design, and development of novel molecular in vitro diagnostic solutions.

You will work according to an ISO 13485-certified quality management system. In addition, you will contribute to building a culture of business excellence and transparent communications.

This role reports to the Chief Scientific Officer.

Your tasks will include:

  • Manage and lead the R&D team in the development of new molecular assay products.
  • Set and oversee project timelines, ensuring milestones are met and projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators for product development projects. Make data-driven decisions to guide product development projects.
  • Identify potential risks in product development projects and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress and findings, including project meetings and cross-departmental meetings.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including sales/marketing, engineering, production, PMO, QA/RA to collect relevant inputs, ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, and ensure a smooth product development process.
  • Work closely with the CSO to establish and achieve R&D objectives that align with our company's strategic goals.
  • Manage, mentor and develop the R&D staff, fostering a culture of high-performance, scientific excellence, continual improvement and professional growth.
  • Represent the company in scientific conferences, symposiums, and industry events.

Personal Qualities:

  • PhD or Master Degree in Molecular Biology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology or a related field.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
  • At least 3 years of relevant management experience.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and allocate resources effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of molecular diagnostic products and market trends.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Proficient in strategic planning and aligning R&D initiatives with business objectives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to facilitate understanding between different stakeholders.
  • Practical knowledge of ISO 13485- and IVDR 2017/746-conform Design Control processes.
  • Knowledge of infectious diseases is a plus.
